I'm childless, unmarried... and happy
A far back as I can remember I never wanted to have children and, if I think about it, there were hints from an early age.
When I was a child I shunned dolls and instead played with the endless stuffed animals that filled my bedroom.
I was the youngest of four and didn’t have much experience of babies as I was always the baby myself and maybe that also played its part.
However, as the years rolled by I expected a maternal instinct to kick in; I was a woman after all, wasn’t I hardwired to nurture?
My biological clock came without batteries installed, because the primal drive that propels so many women toward motherhood never materialised for me.
